Ah, the adventure of finding the right diaper bag…fun, right? Mostly, yes-but I have found it to be a challenging decision! Considering I used to sell them, I felt I had a strong knowledge of the features I wanted, quality, and price. However the twins made me question it all…so I thought I would share my tips. When looking for the right bag for you, consider these points:
*Function…pockets, changing pad, a wide opening, easy to carry…all important things to look for!
*Style/form…don’t feel you have to sacrifice style for function…there are plenty of good looking ones that can have longer lives as a purse/tote after baby needs have passed.
*Price…with so many options, there is something for everyone’s price point…don’t feel locked into big box store options, shop local boutiques and the web for unique choices!
*Cleanability…this bag is going to take a beating for sure, so wipeable materials on the inside and out are preferable!
*Stroller compatibility…one area many forget to consider…does it work well with your chosen stroller? How does it attach, is it easily accessible, does it compliment the design/look good?
In the end I chose this bag, which was large enough to accommodate our twin needs, was black and simple (my personal taste), has longevity as a tote in the future, and looks great on our Bugaboo Donkey. I first purchased this Storksak bag and liked it a lot, but after comparing the two I needed the larger size, and had no use for the two handles…I will only be using it in the messenger style. Also, don’t forget about Dad-I gave Mr. Nesting this one as a gift (we inherited it)…great idea for Father’s Day coming up. Good luck on your search, take your time, and have fun!
Having been part of many retail ventures, I appreciate a good one when I see it. Oranges and Lemons is an adorable local baby and children’s boutique, where I do much of my shopping! Located in Greenville, DE…they just celebrated their grand re-opening in their new space. The cheerful pint-sized space is packed and stacked with goodies for your little ones, including some of my favorite brands such as Bugaboo and Heather Moore Jewelry. Added to that is their generous selection of books, clothing and toys…I dare you to leave without something fabulous! Stop by the new space when you can, and in the meantime you can find them on Facebook and Twitter!
Being an interior designer, I have a tendency to focus on decor. However, I have recently fallen into the dangerous habit of looking at baby clothes, and have gotten lost in all the cuteness. Many of you may also get the Mini Boden catalog, and if so, I’m sure you can agree with me that they know cute. I was happy to learn that Nordstrom is the exclusive U.S. retailer for the baby/kids line…I shop there often. I love both boy and girl clothes, but have always been drawn more to boy clothes. I can’t resist a tiny sweater or mini loafers…I don’t agree with those who claim baby boy options are not as cute! What are your favorite baby clothing lines…do tell!
I just realized that these beautiful children’s clothes featured on Anthropologie are made by the talented Rachel Faucett of Handmade Charlotte. I enjoy her blog and am now even more impressed with these designs…thank you for sharing this awesome news, Black Eiffel! I am swooning over these dresses!
This recently launched line of stylish and practical clothing for maternity and beyond is the Hatch Collection. I am tempted to buy a few pieces, knowing they will work now, when I am pregnant, and after….they are all comfortable, chic and timeless. Love!
There is a lot of buzz online and elsewhere about the maternity line of Isabella Oliver. I have to say, I love the designs, and think the line offers something many do not. Have you seen it, or do you own any pieces? What is your opinion?
I have to tell you about my absolute favorite jewelry line, Heather Moore Jewelry. During my time in Charlotte at the Nesting boutique, we carried the line and I fell in love with it. I don’t wear much jewelry, but I wear my HM necklace every day, dressed up or down. Founded in 1994, it has grown incredibly and can be seen in select fine boutiques, the Sundance catalog, and countless magazines. What I love most about it is the personal aspect, and the customization options, they are endless! Wearing statements of my most precious memories and loves is perfect for me, I’m such a sentimental gal. Many put their child’s name and birthdate on a charm, and I love it for Mom’s, however they have a design for just about any life event! I had the pleasure of hosting a trunk show and getting to know Heather (that’s us above), and she gave me so many ideas for clients and future pieces for my own necklace. I encourage you to explore their site, but be warned–you just might fall head over heels.
I’m still in a red, white and blue mood…which makes me think of the Swedish clothing company, Polarn O. Pyret! Known for their stripes since 1976, they have recently opened their first U.S. store, in Connecticut. From newborn to mama, they have something for everyone…check out their site here. Don’t miss the adorable toys!
These are some cool dude diaper bags that I think any Dad would feel comfortable carrying. The Scout collection by Petunia Pickle Bottom is designed specifically with men in mind, although I know some women who would also love this aesthetic! Loaded with all the bells and whistles, you would never know it’s purpose just glancing at it. I think it’s a great Father’s Day gift for a dad or dad-to-be! Check out the entire collection!
Ok, so this is one of those things that you would most likely not buy yourself, but you would love to receive as a gift. I cannot get over the cuteness…custom monogrammed moccasins by Little Cupcakes Company. Who says there is not enough cute boy stuff?!
